Slaughterhouses

Pieralisi Decanter Centrifuges in slaughterhouses are typically applied for the dewatering of primary and secondary sludge generated from waste water treatment systems. According to the process diagram hereunder slaughterhouses often operate dissolved air flotation (DAF) units with chemical dosing for primary COD/BOD reduction in waste water. The effluent of the DAF unit is usually directed to an aerobic biological treatment system for further treatment. The sludge generated by these waste water treatment systems is typically subject to further treatment by incineration, composting or rendering depending on the composition of the sludge. As the dry solid content of this sludge is around 4 to 6 % only, the water content is substantial resulting in high treatment costs (€ 25,= to € 50,= per ton).

With the application of a Pieralisi Decanter Centrifuge the dry solid content of the sludge can be increased up to 30%. The volume of sludge and related costs for further treatment will be reduced 5 to 6 times. Slaughterhouses with an annual primary/secondary sludge volume of 2.000 tons or more usually realise a payback time of less than 2 years on the investment costs for a Pieralisi Decanter Centrifuge.
